Walking

Most of us will commit to walking to exercise our bodies in the new year.
We want to slim down and shape up, that is one of the first new year’s
resolutions most individuals make. The apostle Paul continues, in the epistles,
to encourage us to walk strong with God! I was reminded of this when reading
1 Thessalonians 4:1-28(KJV).

Spiritual walking with God should be a daily exercise. It is easy to add God
to our lives daily, you can start by adding just one verse a day. As most
people get out of bed they will begin stretching exercises, your spiritual
stretch could be reading one verse!

1 Thessalonians 3:11(KJV), starts, “furthermore, God himself and our
father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way onto you. And the Lord make you increase in abounding love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do towards you; to the end, He may establish your hearts unblameably in holiness before God, even our father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his secrets. (1 Thessalonians 4:1(KJV)) furthermore, then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort ye by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God so that you would abound more and more.

Just as physical walking exercises the body to become healthier and
healthier, exercising scripture within your mind and heart daily helps you to
receive new revelations in God. You find encouragement when needed, you find
direction and wisdom in the trials and tribulations of life, and you find
deliverance from man’s thinking into a God mindset!

I pray that you exercise your right to read scripture in order that you may grow greatly in God’s way of helping us to prosper spiritually!

End of life

As I oversee one of my patients nearing the end of life, I listen as she reflects back on 91 years.

She reflects on regrets asking, “what could have been different?” The response to herself was spending more time with her husband’s interests, instead of saying,” that doesn’t appeal to me,“ or “I certainly don’t have a desire to ever do that.”

The one thing I do not hear her say is, “I could have done more for Christ.” The joy of hearing her talk is the confidence that she spent her life loving Jesus. Did she make mistakes? Yes! She reflects on that also, but she was confident that the knowledge and teaching received from childhood into adulthood had equipped her with what was needed to stay faithful to Christ.

She often says, “I could have given more monetarily into the church,” but she has corrected this in later years by giving more to bless others.

Because of their faithfulness when she didn’t have much, God has given her wealth in the late years of her life.

Her advice to you? Stay faithful and give in to what little you have and God will give you the wisdom for far greater things. Will you make mistakes, yes! Does Christ forgive, yes, but only to a truly repentant heart?

Not until her 40s did she start investing money in the stock market. The children are grown and on their own, she started with $15. It’s never too late to invest in Christ or be wise with money!

As you reflect on your life what will you see? Will you see a repentant heart? A desire to do better? Taking time to love those near you? Will you see faithfulness in your walk with Christ?

Feeling alone

When feeling alone I become inspired by my parents and many others that chose to serve Christ. My parents were young when they married and came from families where some siblings chose not to serve God.

Because they did not agree with the lifestyle that many siblings were living, they often were left out of many activities. This often made them feel alone. Other Christians that associated with my parents often did not live according to Bible beliefs in some areas–this too made them feel alone or different.

They continued to live according to what they knew to be true. This they explained is, “living by faith.”

Often when feeling different and alone, I was reminded that I was never alone. God was always watching, angels were constantly guarding me and Jesus gives us the power to feel wanted and loved through His sacrifice.

Now that I am older, I often wonder how hard it was for my parents to give us this advice when feeling so alone through the attitude or actions of church members, coworkers, extended family, life events, and sometimes themselves.

Jesus truly is our fortress and deliverer. (Isaiah 91:1-31(KJV))

Hebrews 13:51(KJV) says, “For he hath said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.'”
