Find your “good enough”

Are you struggling with feelings or thoughts of inadequacies? We all go through this at some point in our lives. Often times situations arise that throw us into this mindset. Situations like unhappiness, strife with others, verbal insults, physical violence, and many other occasions.

The scripture tells us we do not fight against flesh and blood, but against spiritual darkness. Whomever or whatever has caused you to feel this way, start to pray. During dark times in my life, no matter how I am feeling, I automatically start praying. I have often turned to Psalms for encouragement.

King David often went through hard times because of his enemies. Not, only from the surrounding countries that often wanted to attack the Israelites, but often times those that worked close to him on a day-to-day basis. He even had horrible events happen within his family. One of his sons raped his half-sister. Her brother was so angry that he took off after the half-brother and killed him.

No matter your situation, or what has been said or done to you. God says you are good enough. Don’t accept that evil spirit from others or the negativity from a situation to dictate your life. Let go of it. That is exactly what the evil situation or spirit from another person wants. The evil wants you to become immobile or put you into such a depression that it holds you back from blessings.

Psalm 139:14 KJV, says ,I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knowth it well.”

The Modern Language version says, “I praise thee because I have been fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous is Thy workmanship, as my soul is well aware.”

How do you let go? I had to practice, so be patient with yourself as you learn a new habit. I started thinking about the good things around me. I would look up at the sky and think, “wow” how beautiful, even if it is a cloudy day. Or I started thinking of great food I’ve tasted in the past and would begin to look up the recipe. It takes practice, but it is a new beginning for you today. You are good enough!

Good enough for the promotion, good enough for the quiet walk down a beautiful road, good enough to think you are pretty or handsome, whatever it is tell yourself, you are good enough. If God made you carefully, then you are good enough for anything.

Burning deadwood

As I look over the property making plans for improvements, I see several things that have to be accomplished before the vision can be revealed.

The list keeps increasing; underbrush, trees, and stumps that need removing along with leveling the ground.
As the cutting and burning of the dead forest wood and the trimmings from live trees and, also, the removal of overgrown bushes continue the tasks seem endless.
A constant reminder encourages that all the little things that seem to consume time will eventually be worth it.

The same goes with serving Jesus Christ, there are so many things to learn, so many things to change in our lives, attitude, habits, etc. All we can do is step onto the property and start picking up the deadwood building a fireplace and start the cleanup.

As the property, we work on shows improvement we need to rejoice and stay encouraged that we are growing closer to our “God-goals” each and every day!

God has a vision of our better self. If we just focus on God’s love for us, we begin to see why God loves us so much! Our lives begin to show us making better decisions, and prospering, and maybe others around us begin to see the difference. That’s when we can say, serving Jesus Christ is worth the investment!

End of life

As I oversee one of my patients nearing the end of life, I listen as she reflects back on 91 years.

She reflects on regrets asking, “what could have been different?” The response to herself was spending more time with her husband’s interests, instead of saying,” that doesn’t appeal to me,“ or “I certainly don’t have a desire to ever do that.”

The one thing I do not hear her say is, “I could have done more for Christ.” The joy of hearing her talk is the confidence that she spent her life loving Jesus. Did she make mistakes? Yes! She reflects on that also, but she was confident that the knowledge and teaching received from childhood into adulthood had equipped her with what was needed to stay faithful to Christ.

She often says, “I could have given more monetarily into the church,” but she has corrected this in later years by giving more to bless others.

Because of their faithfulness when she didn’t have much, God has given her wealth in the late years of her life.

Her advice to you? Stay faithful and give in to what little you have and God will give you the wisdom for far greater things. Will you make mistakes, yes! Does Christ forgive, yes, but only to a truly repentant heart?

Not until her 40s did she start investing money in the stock market. The children are grown and on their own, she started with $15. It’s never too late to invest in Christ or be wise with money!

As you reflect on your life what will you see? Will you see a repentant heart? A desire to do better? Taking time to love those near you? Will you see faithfulness in your walk with Christ?

Still going….

When you seem at your worst: keep holding on. When it seems your faith is as small as it can get; keep holding on through prayer!

Often times through my journey it seemed I would give up! I kept hearing Christian teachers and preachers in my head saying to stay strong. I would remember the scripture that says: ” Come unto me all ye that are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am gentle and humble of heart, and you will find rest for your souls…Matthew 11: 28-29(KJV)

All God asks of us is to be faithful. God asked His own son to be faithful and fulfill the earthly plan by coming to earth in the form of a human. Even in the Garden of Gethsemane Jesus had to pray in agony until droplets of blood seeped through the pores of his forehead. He was agonizing before God so he would not turn and run. Who in their right mind wants to put themselves over to be mutilated and tortured? Jesus had to get the mindset of the Father. He came through victorious because He sought the will of God.

You also will come through victorious! Keep quoting scripture that strengthens you and encourages you to continue to turn the battle over to God!

Keep going so that you can say to others as a testimony: Still going for Christ!
